Afridi eyes build-up towards World T20s

The security arrangements had been the focus since Zimbabwe's arrival in Pakistan but on the eve of the first ever Twenty20 international at the Gaddafi Stadium, the attention returned to cricket. With ten months to go for the World T20 in India, Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, had his eyes on giving the revamped squad a good test. The two T20Is against Zimbabwe were a chance to experiment before they settle on a core group, he said. "I had requested the selectors to give me three to four new players for the series.

" Afridi said. "In the last three months of our preparation, I don't like to see changes in the team so that the same set of players go to the World T20s and their morale remains high. It's selectors' responsibility. I don't want to interfere in their work. I want to work together with them and form a good team. "When you are focusing on World T20, you have to do experiments," he said. "You try to work on weak areas to do well. It's good that the selection committee is doing its work.

As a captain I will do my work, coaches will do their job. If we concentrate on our areas the results will be good." The inclusion of allrounder Shoaib Malik and fast bowler Mohammad Sami had been surprising but the selectors also included uncapped 19-year-old opener Nauman Anwar and former under-19 captain Imad Wasim. Anwar Ali, Bilawal Bhatti and Hammad Azam also returned to the squad, while Saad Nasim, Imran Khan and Haris Sohail were dropped from the T20 squad that played against Bangladesh in Mirpur last month.

I just cannot get over the fact that I won't see Sachin Tendulkar anymore in ODI cricket.
Do you think he will come back? For us? For India?

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 2nd ODI

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 2nd ODI

Much of this series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe has revolved around the fact that international cricket has returned to the country for the first time in six years. Cricket has almost been a second thought, but now that Pakistan have a chance to exert their dominance on Zimbabwe, that might change.

In both the T20 series and in the first ODI, Zimbabwe have been innocuous. One of their biggest failings remain that their batting is far stronger than their bowling. Just how poor their bowling is was underscored in Tuesday’s match when the visitors conceded 375 runs, while taking just three wickets. And it could have been much worse.

Despite the massive total, Pakistan were hardly overly aggressive in their approach. There might be some more urgency in the second ODI, though, as a win would mean that they cannot lose the series. The venue will remain the same, and if the previous results are anything to go by, there will be plenty on offer for the batsmen.

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe first ODI sixes

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe first ODI sixes......

Shoaib Malik hit his first century in six years to help Pakistan outbat Zimbabwe in the first day-night international by 41 runs in Lahore on Tuesday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. (Scorecard) Malik, playing his first one-dayer after two years, notched up a 76-ball 112 with 12 fours and two sixes to steer Pakistan to 375-3 -- their highest against Zimbabwe -- before restricting the tourists to 334-5 in 50 overs at Gaddafi Stadium. Zimbabwe tried their valiant best with skipper Elton Chigumbura hitting a rapid 95-ball 117 but the mounting asking rate proved too much in the end.

Chigumbura hit 10 boundaries and four sixes in his maiden one-day hundred as Zimbabwe also improved on their previous highest total against Pakistan, beating 295-9 in Bulawayo in 2002. Chigumbura added 124 for the third wicket with Hamilton Masakadza (73) and another 74 for the fourth with Sean Williams (36). Chigumbura was bowled in the 45th over by paceman Wahab Riaz who was the best Pakistan bowler with 3-47. Chigumbura's previous best was 90 he made against South Africa at Bulawayo last year. Pakistan captain Azhar Ali attributed the win to team effort. "We got a good start and everyone chipped in with Malik build on that for our big total which won us the match," said Ali. "It was a good team effort."

WEST INDIES V AUSTRALIA 1st Test Match

WEST INDIES V AUSTRALIA 1st Test Match

Date: (June 3,2015)

Australia’s gruelling Test-filled winter kicks off tonight when Michael Clarke’s men take on the West Indies President’s XI at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The three-day tour match is the only warm-up game ahead of the two-Test Frank Worrell Trophy series, which starts in Dominica on June 3.

Australia head into the match without a majority of their Indian Premier League stars, opting to rest Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith and David Warner, while allrounder Shane Watson is expected to join the squad tonight following the birth of his second child on Saturday in Sydney. In what could be a glimpse into Australia’s potential line-up for the first Test, spin twins Nathan Lyon and Fawad Ahmed will operate in tandem alongside fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle and allrounder Mitchell Marsh.

England complete dramatic turnaround win 1stTest Match

England complete dramatic turnaround win 1st Test Match

Shortly before lunch on Saturday, New Zealand were 404 for 3, building a lead, and England's new era was heading for a difficult start. At 6pm on Monday, with less than 10 overs of a compelling Test match remaining, Trent Boult upper cut Stuart Broad towards third man where Moeen Ali, stationed there by Alastair Cook but not right on the boundary edge, took a superbly judged running catch to earn England a 124-run victory and complete a remarkable turnaround.

Less than a year after falling one wicket short of beating Sri Lanka on this ground England were just beginning to get twitchy as Boult and Matt Henry negotiated eight overs with the ball starting to fall short or wide of fielders. But Broad, from round the wicket, dug the ball in and Boult, who had blocked unconventionally, could not resist playing. That it was taken at a position that needed some astute captaincy was the perfect finish for Cook, who had been so central to England's fightback with his 162.

It was a combined effort to bowl New Zealand out for a second time; James Anderson and Stuart Broad firstly reducing them to 12 for 3 before lunch, but it was Ben Stokes who really lit up Lord's for the second afternoon running in with an electrifying over in which he removed two of New Zealand's lynchpins, Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum, in consecutive balls to leave them 61 for 5.
